At 7pm on this hot/humid night, a team of 4 is representing the Drinkingclub at this endurance trail run up and around Table Mountain. The route: Kloofnek circle parking to top of Devils Peak and down, then onto Table Mountain via Platteklip Gorge and all the way across to Mac Clears Beacon and back down and to the top of Lions Head, finishing at the Kloofnek circle parking lot. The Devils Peak section was probably the hardest as it was so warm/humid still. Lightning and thunder coming in and some decent showers to keep us awake! By the time we reached the top the weather had cleared and we were treated to the most amazing views of the lit up city. Platteklip seemed much steeper/longer then I’d ever experienced it Once we were down around midnight the winners had already finished yet we still had to conquer Lions Head. The thought of ice-cold bubbly at the finish kept us going and after 6hours 50min it was nicely chilled, and we made it across the finish line close to 2am. This race is always well organised with a spread of food at every stop and lots of cheers from the volunteers who managed to stay awake, watching us suffer! As for breaking records: Anna-Tina made it for the first time ever to the top of Lions Head, despite her fear of heights, and she reckons she will never ever go there again (we’ll just wait for next year and see Sandra |
. The run on top to Mac Clears was special…darkness with a one big light shining at Mac Clears and you could spot several “head lamps” running around.
